MOre astonishing news...I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE (JESUS). No one comes to the Father (GOD) except through Me. John 14:6 Are you afraid of dying? Jesus died for you. Believe and repent today!

Time-tested formula: leggy young woman, saucy lyrics and semi-burlesque house dance moves.

This is from the movie "Dance Girl, Dance" , starring Lucille Ball and Maureen O'Hara. An unusual comedy/ drama in which Lucy plays a wise cracking , tough, burlesque dancer who knows how to survive and Maureen plays a down on her luck , innocent, shy ballet dancer. They become friends ( and indeed became life long friends in real life too) and Lucy devises a burlesque comedy routine using both their talents to try and improve their finances, and it becomes a hit. Lucy and Maureen were both under contract at RKO at that time and Lucy always considered it her "home studio", in fact, she loved this studio so much that later in her career she bought it and it became DesiLu studios where "I Love Lucy", "Star Trek" and many other TV shows were filmed. At the time of this film however, Lucy was about to leave RKO and sign an exclusive contract with MGM where she stayed for a few years. But MGM didn't know what to do with her, so after a few pictures she went back to RKO to stay.

What a surprise. Didn’t know she was so talented, only remembered her from ‘I Love Lucy’ which I viewed as a teenager in the 50’s. Go figure.

It's a shame that films never quite knew what to do with Lucille Ball. She couldn't play the ingenue, she came across as too worldly. There were already too many glamourous actresses who had the A roles and they didn't put her in comedies where she really shone. She was so beautiful but it took television to make her a household name. She might have been glorious opposite Bogie or Gary Cooper. The roles just weren't offered to her.

While i watching this, i had the same thought expressed in the previous comment. As a kid knew Lucille ball from the television show and knew her as an actress from the films she was in. But didn't know about her singing and dancing . What a talented beauty she was. Thinks. For posting. Yup she was very pretty... but not many people know she was the one who she was the one who owned the studio during star track series in the mid 6os and that she had fath it would be a success! Well she was right! Yup in a trekie.. tings to lucy!! Wow !,!!, 2024 and she still has an enthralled audience ❤ wow she has beautiful, she could sing and dance and she was one of the greatest comedians ever! Oh, yes, a smart, visionary business woman a great, talented human being. I love Lucy ❤ can't believe i haven't seen this my whole life. I remember my mom saying lucy was a real beauty with a great figure. This is priceless , young beautiful and still funny! I keep forgetting that she was a chorus girl/dancer. What a beauty she was i can't believe in all my years , I've never seen her dance . Drama, comedy, and singing , but never dancing. Thinks for posting! Another reason why the world loved lucy killer dress, by the way!

@donaldperez7981 I quite liked it at the time and just watched it again during lockdown and I still find her performance to be fantastic, even if the entire story is less than plausible. It broke her heart that people didn't like that film.

I forget who it was, one of her macho co-stars who was in a movie with her, where she had to be angry and throw a punch at him. And he said something like "You couldn't hit me of course" and she took a dollar out of her purse and put it on a table, looked him in the eye and said "Put your money on that". He tried to laugh it off but she insisted, he leaned over to put his money down and when he straightened up she popped him a good solid shot in the teeth that rattled him and picked his money up. He was a good sport about it in his memoirs or told someone else and they put it in theirs, I forget.
